Yamaha India planning to expand its sales in rural market

Yamaha, the Japanese bike manufacturer’s Indian unit is now planning its expansion by entering markets rurally and aims to offer new reasonable models. Yamaha has a strong brand name already in the urban segment and now taking a curve to focus on rural markets. Roy Kurian says Yamaha had seen strong sales in urban sector due to the pre-existing image as a bike manufacturer that manufactures premium bikes, and in hopes of upping their growth, they want to make their presence felt in the rural areas. Yamaha sold around 3,80,000 units in 2010 in the 2-wheeler bike market in India while currently they look forward to selling 5,20,000 units this year. Finally, some good news for MotoGP fans in Japan. The latest to have confirmed their participation in the Motegi GP that was re-scheduled for October are Yamaha Factory Racing Team’s Ben Spies and Jorge Lorenzo. It could be noted that earlier Jorge Lorenzo had voiced concern about his participation along with Casey Stoner, but now the entire squad of Yamaha have confirmed they would be attending the event at Motegi. Stoner too was found softening his stance on the issue now leaving Rossi as the only rider to oppose racing in Japan. India Yamaha Motor Records 28.49% Sales Growth in July

India Yamaha Motor recently reported an increase of 28.49% in their overall sales in July, in which they managed to sell around 38,197 vehicles. Last year, during the same period, the company had managed to sell around 29,728 vehicles. According to the company, the domestic sales of the company were around 29,021 vehicles in comparison to the 22,899 vehicles it sold in the corresponding period in 2010, an increase of 26.73%. The company’s exports also increased to 9,176 vehicles from the earlier 6,829 vehicles it sold in the same period a year ago, an increase of 34.37%. The US division of Yamaha, Star Motorcycles recently showcased two scooters for their 2012 lineup. This includes the 2012 Majesty Scooters and the Zuma 50F. Though Zuma 50F will arrive across US dealerships by September, Majesty Scooters will be available a month earlier, in August. The new Zuma 50F is powered by a 49cc, four stroke, fuel injected, liquid cooled engine, twin headlights, and a new sharp style that updates the off-road, tough image of the original Zuma scooter. Yamaha India recently announced that they plan to double their motorcycle sales to around 500,000 units in 2011. The MD and CEO of the company, Hiroyuki Suzuki, was quoted as saying that they plan to sell around 5 lakh motorcycles this year. They have a target of selling around 3.5 lakh in India, and exporting the remaining 1.5 lakh bikes. Last year, the company sold around 2.5 lakh bikes. He also added that their company had products in all of the five segments, which include standard, executive, basic, deluxe and premium.
