Suzuki Slingshot Review





Suzuki is present in India since long when most of the Indian streets were dominated with two stroke bikes. Suzuki in the past was known for its two stroke models the Suzuki Samurai “no problem bike” Shogun and the Maxx 100. Suzuki in 2010 brought a four stoke commuter bike specially designed for India, it’s called the Suzuki Slingshot. Since it was introduced Suzuki is trying hard with sales by introducing variants and updates the current model offering as latest as December 2010 is the Slingshot Plus. Slingshot settles in the affordable commuter segment. The ride is value for money as it’s priced at Rs. 54,000 pricing may vary.

The design

It was a big hype when Suzuki announced launch of their new bike Suzuki Slingshot. Serving to the commuter segment the pricing of the bike starts from Rs. 43945 and reaches to Rs 55,800 depending on the model and options you choose. The bike is very new to the Indian market where there are leading models from Hero Honda, Bajaj and Honda. Suzuki Slingshot in India is gaining slow acceptance with a distinctive image. The Slingshot plus is offered in five variants with optional disc and self start.

Suzuki Slingshot faces competition from commuter bikes such as the Honda Shine, Bajaj Discover, Hero Honda Splendor and Passion and the current trendier offering, Honda Stunner.

Powerplant on the Suzuki Slingshot is a four stroke SOHC 125cc engine. The engine design is new by the Japanese manufacturer where they have blessed right amount of power and fuel efficiency. With 125cc on the displacement the engine gives out 8.5 bhp @ 7500 rpm and max torque of 10 nm @ 3,500 rpm. Suzuki Slingshot is the fastest mover in the traffic as it generates 10 nm of torque at low rpm. It’s also among very few models available to be offered with 5 speed gear box on a 125cc engine. Every thing makes the ride a dynamic performer.

Suzuki Slingshot in India is offered in five options to serve versatile Indian need. Buyers can choose features they want and dropout something they don’t need, electric start, and disc brakes are offered optional.

Engine

The Suzuki Slingshot 125 comes equipped with a very durable 125 engine. The four stroke engine cools down faster than any other engine in the segment which makes it a consistent performer. Slingshot reaches 0-80 with minimum effort, but its early power generation makes it suffer at the higher end. The 60km/hr from a rest is achieved in7.5 seconds giving a peppy ride and does a top of 104km/hr. Also riding on a little higher rpm band the exhausts generates note that makes riding enjoyable.

Styling

Suzuki Slingshot is a bike that is made up of lots of style. It’s a commuter bike but still is with styling that makes every day commuting a lot of fun, where there is always a second shot look when you wait on the signal or just cruise by. Suzuki has added lots of features to the small package. Like other international manufacturers like the Honda and Yamaha, Suzuki has also added the Slingshot having cues from Suzuki’s international street bikes. The most important thing to be considered on the styling is its eye catchy front cowl and side body panels, where every plastic and fiber is present at the right place and just in right shape. When it comes to style the Slingshot out performs Hero Honda Glamour, Honda Shine and Bajaj Platina. Over the headlamp settles an instrument panel. Instrument console is dominated with large speedometer on the left side on to the right is large fuel gauge and on the top is a gear shift indicator. The fuel tank looks beefy and shares its looks with Suzuki GS 150.

Comfort & Handling

When it comes to handling the Suzuki Slingshot in India has most sorted suspension. The suspension package is supple makes the ride easy and flick able while cornering and while those hard turns in traffic lead through the red light. Slingshot is not offered with disc but one can get it as optional. The saddle is the most inviting. Seat gives an ergonomic position and stuffed enough to keep the back out of problem irrespective of how bad the road gets.

Mileage

Suzuki slingshot gives a reasonable 60kmpl in mixed condition. The amount fuel consumption is typical for a bike in this segment. Suzuki bikes in India are famous for their fuel economy since the time they were present in the two stroke era and the Slingshot is no exception on the Indian roads. The Slingshot fits well in the segment as 125cc segment largely comprises of buyers who look for fuel economy rather than styling or power. Well the Suzuki Slingshot in India doesn’t disappoint Indian buyers. Suzuki has to offer lots of commutation with style.

The Bottom Line

Suzuki Slingshot price in India starts from Rs 43,945 the bike is just a grab for commuters. Though the plastic material and quality is under graded, one can ignore this for a fuel efficient powerful engine and international style. Slingshot is positioned in the segment which has some serious commuters but all of them fail to showcase styling to that on the Slingshot. So if you are looking for value then Suzuki Slingshot is the best option available.

  1. I took the bike today. The ride is smooth, handling is easy, comfortable seating for the driver and the pillion rider. Checked up to 80 km/hr speed, it went without any vibration. I cannot comment on the mileage as I just took it.
