We had brought you the news of Suzuki Motorcycle India Limited (SMIL), launching the Hayate commuter motorcycle by mid 2012. The commuter motorcycle debuted at the 2012 Auto Expo in Delhi was a significant launch for the Japanese brand, as the previously launched Slingshot did not do fairly well in the Indian market. Coming at a starting price of Rs 40,162, the Suzuki Hayate is now available to the Suzuki fans.
Suzuki Hayate, in Japanese translates to ‘Fresh Breeze’ or ‘Swift Wind’, gets an 112cc 4-stroke air-cooled engine that is good for 8.4 PS max power and 8.8 Nm peak torque. Driving the power to the wheels is a four-speed gearbox. It sports an eight litre fuel tank, and Suzuki claims a class-leading fuel-economy.
Front and rear drums come as standard on all variants. Also standard is 17-inch mag-wheels and adjustable shockups. Color options available for the Suzuki Hayate include – GL Sparkle Black, Pearl Mirage White, Metallic Lush Green, Metallic Flint Grey, and Pearl Mica Red.
Suzuki is confident with the new motorcycle and targets a monthly sale of 10,000 units. It shouldn’t be difficult with the new brand ambassador, the Bollywood superstar, Salman Khan, who will promote the motorcycle across the nation.
Anand Thakur, head of national sales (SMIL) believes Maharashtra is a vital market for the motorcycle as a large section of society commutes long distances to work. Moreover, Suzuki offers the Hayate to first time buyers as well as customers looking for good value for money and hustle-free maintenance.
