The Italian two-wheeler maker, Piaggio is all set to extend its product portfolio in India by launching superbike and cruisers to challenge the current market leaders like Royal Enfield and Harley Davidson. This decision is also taken as the response to its recent success with the Vespa brand that was launched few months ago. Till now Piaggio held a broad market share in the three and four-wheeler market in India and now it is looking towards making its presence felt in the two-wheeler segment. For superbikes and cruisers, Piaggio is looking towards expanding its Aprilia brand and also introduction of MotoGuzzi brand later on.
Chairman and Managing Director of Piaggio, Ravi Chopra said that we are considering the right time for the launch of products following the Vespa lineup. Piaggio has tons of brands and products to offer. The company is currently evaluating these products according to Indian needs. He further added that out of the 8 two wheeler brands that Piaggio owns, at least four will be made available in India by next year. While Piaggio will be competing at the entry segment, Vespa will continue to deliver its presence in the scooter market, while Aprilia will be giving tough competition to the Honda, Suzuki, KTM, BMW, Yamaha and Kawasaki, MotoGuzzi will be giving tough competition to cruisers like Harley Davidson, Triumph and Royal Enfield.
Mr. Chopra further added that the main focus of the company will be on the scooter segment, which will be placed under the Piaggio brand. To showcase company’s technology they are also bringing superbike to Indian market. The market has its potential and is growing in a steady pace. MotoGuzzi is a renowned cruiser brand, will also be making its way to Indian market. Piaggio has already brought Aprilia brand with a single showroom in Pune. Now, it is planning to expand the dealership network to other location like Hyderabad, Bangalore and Gurgaon.
