There has been a quite strong speculation about Yamaha preparing to launch its own bike in the 250cc segment, a segment that is seeing quite a high growth in India and around the world. However, there are few hints that suggest that the rumors might be true. Yamaha is possibly working on the 250cc bike that will be based on its bigger bike like YZF-R6. The Yamaha 250cc version is expected to inherit the same design and features that currently prevails with the YZF-R15 V 2.0, possibly with some tweaks. The motorcycle is expected to hit market most probably by late 2014 or early 2015.
Until now not much data is available about the YZF 250cc. In the upcoming EICMA motorcycle show, Yamaha may present some concept model of YZF. Bike manufacturers who have been in the premium motorcycle segment have moved from 150cc to higher segment like 200, 220, 250 and 300cc. Yamaha has been quite slow in responding against the changing market interest and is now hoping to get back in the race with the new bike. Company has already made a statement stating that the Yamaha will be introducing all new motorcycle range specially made for the Indian market by 2016 which will be design and developed in the country itself.
Yamaha’s Japanese rivals are currently leading the segment with CBR250R from Honda and Ninja 250R from Kawasaki. Kawasaki is also set to bring new Kawasaki Ninja 300R quite soon. The new Ninja is scheduled to replace 250R. Suzuki Motorcycles are also planning to bring their GW250 into Indian Market, after its recent plans to extend its production capacity in the country. KTM is also said to be working on a 375cc motorcycle that may also appear next year and Bajaj will also follow the trend with the same engine that will be tweaked with the triple ignition technology for better fuel economy. In all there are tons of great bikes that will be decorating the premium segment with Yamaha 250cc or higher bikes.
