LML Limited, an auto manufacturer based in Kanpur recently launched a 4 stroke Select 4 scooter in Delhi NCR. This scooter is powered by a single cylinder, air cooled, 148cc engine. It is also offered in four gears, with which the engine delivers 8.8PS of max power at 6,200rpm and 11.3Nm peak torque at 4,250rpm.
The capacity of the fuel tank is 5.5l with 1 liter reserve fuel. The Select 4 KS (KS standing for kick start is priced at INR 47,140 according to ex-showroom prices, whereas the Select 4 ES (ES standing for Electric Start), will be priced at INR 50,978.
The company’s head of marketing and sales, P.S. Choudhary, said that they are looking forward to start selling their bike in Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Punjab by June end. He modestly estimates the new Select 4 to sell around 250 to 300 units in Delhi NCR by the coming two to three months.
Choudhary also added, disclosing future plans for 2011 that they are working to expand their current portfolio to include two new scooters and two motorcycles. The two motorcycles would be in the 125cc and 100cc categories. Moreover, of the 2 planned scooters, one would be gearless, and would be offered in the 100 to 125cc segment.
This expansion also consists of a 200cc scooter that will be offered in the lifestyle and sport segment. Both the two wheelers could be launched around August to December. Moreover, LML also intends to export and manufacturer light scooters without gears 50cc and above by December end in Europe. The company presently exports a sports/lifestyle 200cc scooter in the European market, apart from the 150cc and 125cc standard geared scooters like the Stella Speedy and Star, among others.
Choudhary further added that the market of domestic scooters is growing at 42% CAGR. They will leverage this growth by providing exciting products in the gearless and geared segment. LML will continue exploring these categories apart from re-entering the Indian and overseas motorcycle markets.
