Hyosung to launch GV650 in India by January 2013

Craze for cruiser bikes seems to be at an all time high with Royal Enfield’s affordable cruisers. Cruising bikes have changed the face of two-wheeler industry in India. Previously, Indians used to prefer a sports-bike over a cruiser. But now the cruiser has become an all-rounder. Though whatever the occasion maybe, people prefer to strap themselves on their favorite cruisers. Launch of Harley-Davidson in India justifies the same. After tasting success in the sports-bike segment, the Korean bike maker Hyosung is also trying to set its foot in the cruiser segment. Starting with ST7 (for cruiser segment) in India, bike maker will launch GV650 in India in the mid of January 2013. Nonetheless, GV650 is a cruiser bike. It sports a 647 cc V-twin liquid cooled 4-stroke engine. Powertrain yields a 79 HP @ 9000 rpm with a 66.99 Nm of torque @ 7250 rpm. It also features a low maintenance belt drive. This engine is more or less similar to Suzuki’s SV 650. It also powers Hyosung’s very own GT 650R.

Apart from the new launch, the Korean bike maker will also launch its existing GT 650R with some facelifts this year.

GV 650 is expected to be priced at 5 lakh INR. News is also there that Harley is going to launch its entry-level bike especially for India which will be priced between somewhere 3.5 – 4 lakh. Though GV 650 is completely in a different segment as compared to Harley’s entry level bike for India, but we expect GV 650 to get some of the heat from Americans too.
