The Delhi Auto Expo 2012 is expected to be a huge hit with most auto manufacturers planning to use this platform for launching in both the four wheeler and two wheeler segments. This becomes evident when you check out the launch calendar and find that no launches have been scheduled for either Christmas or the eve of New Year. Normally, festivities are usually accompanied by car and bike launches in India as is evident in Diwali and Eid. In fact, all companies are deferring their latest launches for the Auto Expo. This seems to be a strategy that is going to work for these companies as the Auto Expo is going to provide them access to international buyers as well. HMSI (Honda Motorcycles and Scooters India) is also expected to use the Auto Expo platform its 100cc passenger bike. The news of this prospective launch has been out in the market for quite some time now, however, till date, there was no clarity regarding the time of launch and the price of the bike.
HMSI has finally clarified that they are going to launch this bike in FY2012-13, but it is going to be showcase the bike for the first time at the Delhi Auto Expo. The Auto Expo is going to be held at New Delhi in January 2012. As per suggestions of the company, the bike has not been priced too high and is expected to be in the range of Rs.45,000. A senior executive of the company has stated to Business Line that the company is going to use the platform provided by the 2012 Auto Expo to showcase its 100cc bike following which the bike is going to be launched in FY2012-13. HMSI CEO and President, Shinji Aoyama has said that this is going to be the first time that the company is going to introduce a motorcycle, belonging to the 100cc category, in the mass segment. Launching of this bike has been accorded top priority by the company. Honda India will not be restricting itself to launching bikes only as it has plans to introduce a latest scooter into the market as well. Honda is not just restricting itself to dominating Indian roads with its bikes but plans to do huge business with its scooters as well.
If we look into the scenario of the Indian scooter market, it is going to be seen that Honda is single handedly dominating this segment. Its offerings in the scooter segment including the Activa, Shine, Unicorn and the likes have strong market domination. Honda has set itself targets to reach a sales figures of 21 lakh scooters in the current year. The new scooter that the company is planning to launch is going to be a completely localized version though the product has been developed in Japan. This translates to the fact that the scooter has been designed for the Indian roads. Since the scooter is coming from a reputed brand like Honda, people are even willing to wait for it. HMSI is already performing strongly in the Indian market with its 1,220 dealer outlets bearing testimony to this fact. But, this has not curbed the enthusiasm that the company has for growing further in this country. The company is still making efforts towards further strengthening its dealership network. It is expected that the company is going to open a further 300 outlets within 2012. With its latest launches combined with its ever growing dealership network is helping Honda completely assert itself in the Indian market.
