Hero MotoCorp has always been a tough promoter Hockey in India and has already sponsored various Hockey events. Now, the news is that HIL (Hockey India League) has signed multi-year title contract with the bike maker. The tournament is little bit based on the IPL and has been scheduled from 14 January to 10 February 2013 and will be involving about 120 world class players. The inaugural season will be played by five teams, Jaypee Punjab Warriors, Delhi Waveriders, Uttar Pradesh Wizards, Ranchi Rhinos and Mumbai Magicians. With the sponsorship in effect this tournament will now be called as Hero Hockey India League with the tag line Dil do Hockey Ko.
Speaking on the occasion, MD and CEO of Hero MotoCorp ltd, Mr. PawanMunjal said that hockey being the national game holds a special place in our hearts and company is quite happy to be a partner of Hockey India League. He appreciated the HIL initiative from the Hockey India and hoped that this will go a long way in developing the game and bringing back its old golden days. NarinderBatra, Chairman of the HIL was also present at the occasion, he said that HIL is very happy to have Hero MotoCorp as their title partner. He also added that Hero group and PawanMunjal has always been a true well-wisher of the Indian hockey and showed their support for hockey in the recent years.
HIL also thanked the Hero group for coming together along the league for a long and prosperous journey. The Hero MotoCorp was also the title sponsor of the 2012 Olympics Qualifier Tournament that was called as Hero FIH Road to London 2012. The tournament was won by Indian men’s team and thus securing their berth for the London Olympics. In 2012 Hero also sponsored the FIH World Cup that was organized in New Delhi.
